Access

The keys to the house will be in a keylock safe at the front door. The access code will be sent to you on the Wednesday prior to arrival. 

Alpaca trekking

Something a bit different for the kids. Alpaca trekking on Bodmin Moor, an area of outstanding natural beauty. A 30 minute drive from the house.

Aga

The kitchen has a two oven gas Aga with two hotplates. The top oven is hot, the lower one is a simmering oven.

There are various Aga cookbooks in the kitchen to help if you've not used one before.

About 2 hours prior to cooking turn the Aga up to 7. When finished turn it down to 2 again. The temperature control switch is in the bottom left hand door of the Aga.

Aga lighting

There are spot lights above the Aga. There is a switch on the right hand side of the Aga wall (between the Aga and the kitchen cupboard).

Arrival

Harbour House is situated on the brow of the first hill of Hannafore Road.

Drive along West Looe Quay, go around the small fisherman's church and onto Hannafore Road, as you climb the small incline the houses on the left end, and on the right hand side you will see house signs for Bay View Apartments, Harbourside, and Harbour House.

We recommend you drive to Hannafore, turn around, and then pull in outside the house with hazzards on to unload luggage.

Baby high chair

We provide one high chair which can be found under the bed in the first floor rear bedroom.

BBQ

The hybrid BBQ is kept under cover in the courtyard behind the kitchen, and allows you to cook with charcoal or gas.

We provide a 13kg Butane Gas bottle. Please bring your own charcoal. 

  • The dual fuel capacity allows for gas and charcoal cooking
  • The BBQ has a split cooking area with a grill and flat hotplate
  • Integrated lids allow you to smoke your meats
  • Vegetarians and vegans can cook on a separate grill to the meat

After cooking the trays and utensils can be rmeoved and cleaned in thre dishwasher.

Please allow the BBQ to cool down completely before replacing the cover.

Bedding

Your beds will be made up with white cotton sheets.

All rooms have gas central heating, original polished wood floors, award winning Emma Mattresses, bedside tables with lamps & clothes hanging space. 

Beaches

Looe is blessed with a beautiful sandy beach, with various coves and pebble beaches within 10 minute walk of the house..

Our board games can be found under the coffee table in the living room.

Butchers

O'Keeffe's butchers at the Pelynt Village stores. An award winning butcher a 10 minute drive from the house. Head out of West Looe and follow the signs to Pelynt. The Pelynt stores are the turning after the church on the left.

Climbing wall

Adventure Fit South West (below the house) has a climbing wall and also offers canoeing, kayaking and paddle boarding trips on the river.

The kitchen has an Nespresso Essenza machine (coffee pods) and a Swan retro one-touch machine (ground coffee), which makes lattes and cappuccinos.

Dogs

Well behaved dogs are very welcome in the house.

We just ask that they aren't allowed on furniture, and not upstairs in the bedrooms.

Muddy pooches can be washed/dried in the boot room where dog towels are provided.

Dog food bowls & water bowls are provided.

Doggy day care

Heading off to the The Eden Project or Adrenalin Quarry? Try Pelynt Boarding Kennels & Cattery (10 minute drive) for doggy day care. They charge £10 per dog. No need to book for day care, just turn up. Over night stays will need to be booked in advance.

There are fire alarms and carbon monoxide alarms on each floor.

There are fire extinguishers in the hall on each floor of the building.

There is a fire blanket in the kitchen, in the boiler cupboard (to the left of the Aga),

First Aid Kit

There is a comprehensive first aid kit on the shelves in the left alcove of the dining room.

Fishmongers

Pengelly's Fish Shop on East Looe Harbour - award winning fishmonger. Everything from cockles to monkfish and fresh lobsters.

Fridge/Freezer/Ice Machine

The kitchen has an under counter fridge.

The main fridge/freezer/icemachine is in the boot room.

Fruit and Veg

QuaySide Fresh - beautiful fresh displays of local fruit and veg. Buller Quay, The Quay, Looe PL13 1DX

Honesty box - A 10 minute drive to the Monkey Sanctuary and 50 yards opposite the entrance you'll find a very well stocked honesty box fruit and veg stall run by a local farmer.

Gas/Electric

Garden Games

In the boot room you'll find:

There are loads of great courses within a 30 minute drive of Harbour House.

China Fleet Club - We haven't played but have heard rave reviews

Lanhydrock - A lovely parkland course with water. One of the finest courses in Cornwall

Looe Golf Club - More challenging than you might think, great sea views, and friendly pro shop

St Austell - A nice parkland course with lovely countryside views

Carlyon Bay - A cliff top course with panoramic sea views 

Whitsand Bay - On the cliffs overlooking Whistand Bay

Hair dryers

There are hair dryers in each of the front bedrooms.

Heating

There is gas central heating throughout the house. This is controlled by a wall mounted thermostat in the ground floor hallway by the living room door.

The control unit has a 'plus' sign in the top right corner to increase the heat, and a 'negative' sign in the top left corner to decrease the heat.

There is also a gas flame fire in the living room. 

Horse riding

Try www.polmartinfarm.com a BHS riding school offering lessons and trekking. A 15 minute drive from the house.

Ironing board

We provide an iron and ironing board. This is kept in the walk-in closet in the front bedroom on the 2nd floor.

Kennels

Heading off the The Eden Project or Adrenalin Quarry? Try Pelynt Boarding Kennels & Cattery (10 minute drive) for doggy day care. £10 per dog.

Keys

On arrival there will be two sets of keys awaiting you in the key lock box in the entrance porch by the front door. The access code will be sent to you a week prior to arrival.

Location

Harbour House, Hannafore Road, West Looe, PL13 2DD

(Don't follow the sat-nav as this will take you to the pedestrian lane behind the house).

Drive along West Looe Quay, go around the small fisherman's church and onto Hannafore Road, as you climb the small incline the houses on the left end, and on the right hand side you will see house signs for Bay View Apartments, Harbourside, and Harbour House.

A pedestrian path leads up to Harbour House, the second entrance on the right.

Looe gin

Looe is home to the Copperfish Distillery, makers of Looe Gin, which comes in various flavours including raspberry, kumquat and grapefruit. 

Copperfish have a small bar at the end of East Looe Quay carpark which catches the late evening sun, so a perfect spot to start your night out.

Looe sea safari

Looe sea safari is new in 2022.  

The perfect way for family and friends to get on the water and explore the beautiful Cornish coastline; aboard an exhilarating 10m ribs with the chance of seeing dolphins, seals, tuna, seabirds and much more.

Trips are perfect for groups, couples, and families and range in length from 20 minutes to 2 hours.

Luggage transfer

Call Pete at Looe Luggage Transfer in advance on 07810 644 449. Pete has a quad bike and trailer and will transport your luggage from your car to Harbour House. The fee is around £5-7.

Number plate stickers

You'll find Kernow (Cornwall) number plate stickers in your welcome pack,

The Kernow flag of Saint Piran is a white cross on a black background, representing white tin flowing from black rock.

Stick one of these on your number plate and you'll be considered a local. It will make a big difference on narrow roads; with tractors much more likely to stop and let you past!

Outside space

Harbour House has a terrace at the front of the house with casual seating for 8-10 people.

At the rear of the house is a small courtyard accessed from the kitchen with seating for 3.

There is a further small terrace at the top of the steps at the rear of the house. Please hold the handrail and take one step at a time.

Paddle boarding

Lessons and excursions up Looe river are available at E-Foil Cornwall 

E-Foil also offer a paddle boarding session pack with lots of fun games designed for kids from the age of 8, from £15 per person.

And e-foil lessons.

Parking

The House does not have dedicated parking. But there is an abundance of parking spaces nearby.

There is free on street parking at Hannafore, a 4 minute walk from the house. This can be accessed either by the front or rear of the house and is an easy walk with sea views all the way.

There is paid parking at West Looe Quay, a 2 minute walk from the house.

There is paid parking, and weekly tickets available, at Pearn's boat yard, a 5 minute walk along West Looe Quay towards the Mill Pool.

There is paid parking at the Mill Pool, a 6 minute walk.

Pasties

A tough choice, but if we had to choose the best we'd recommend Sarah's pasty shop on Buller Street, East Looe. Phone and order in advance, or definitely turn up by Noon, or they'll be sold out.

Peloton Bike

We have a Peloton Bike, weights, and yoga matts in a small gym room on the first floor of the house. Towels are provided.

Please bring your own Peloton shoes.

Pet Shop

Try the incredibly friendly Looe Pet Emporium.

Pubs

All the pubs of Looe are within a 10 minute walk of the house.

The Jolly Sailor, an old Smugglers haunt established in 1516, and the oldest pub in Looe, is on West Looe Square a 2 minute walk from the house.

NB: If you are eating it is essential to book your table well in advance. 

Restaurants

Looe has the freshest fish in the UK, caught daily by a small fleet of day fishing boats.

We also recommend The House on The Props in Polperro for light lunches and afternoon teas. They do a nice crab bisque and seafood platters at lunch time.

Lunch at The Talland Bay hotel is also recommended. Billed as The Best Sea View in the West Country. Talland Bay is a lovely one hour walk along the cliff path or a 10 minute drive.

NB: If you are eating in Looe it is essential to book your restaurant table well in advance as the town can get very busy.

Recycling & Rubbish

Please put your rubbish bags in the bin shed under the outside stairs.

We have a contract with CTC Waste who will collect waste, including recycling, on a Monday morning at 7am. 

You can put all waste including recycling into the same bags as CTC Waste have a long established licensed waste transfer station where they sort and separate the recycling.

CTC Waste has a fully permitted site approved by the Environment Agency.

0% to landfill 100% recycled.

Safety

The main access to the house is via the front.

There is rear access via a very steep set of steps. These steps can be slippy when wet so, if you do use them, please hold the handrail and carfeully navigate one step at a time.

Shark Fishing

Looe is the headquarters of the shark angling club of Great Britain.

All sharks caught are tagged for the World Wildlife Fund and released as part of a conservation program.

The last time we went shark fishing we caught an 8ft porbeagle that had been caught 3 weeks earlier off the coast of Boston, USA.

Wander down to West Looe Quay and you'll see the various fisherman's signs showing the day trips on offer.

We recommend Murray Collins on Swallow 2.

Looe Social Club, on West Looe Quay, offers visitors weekly membership for just £2, to enjoy 2 bars, 2 pool tables and  2 full size snooker tables, plus cheap drinks and a great view of the river.

NB: It's essential to book your treatments well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Our recommendation is to order online for a home delivery on your day of arrival.

The main supermarket would be Morrison's in Liskeard.

There is a Waitrose at the Carkeel Roundabout as you enter Cornwall over the Tamar Bridge.

There is an Aldi at Liskeard.

Spar - West Looe Square

Co-op - Fore Street, East Looe. (There are two, the second is slightly bigger)

Tennis

Looe tennis club at Hannafore offers 5 courts overlooking the sea. 

Either £5 an hour or become a member at £25. You'll need to complete the membership application form on their website in advance.

Television

There is a wallmounted 40" Samsung Art TV in the livingroom. This is a SMART TV. We offer Netflix, you'll be able to log into your own Amazon Accounts.

Theatre

If you're in need of a 'cultural fix' then check out Sterts' unique tented ampitheatre offering all kinds of entertainment from family friendly musicals to comedy nights.

Train station

Looe train station is located at the far end of East Looe.

This is a very picturesque district line to Liskeard where you can get connections to Penzance in the West or London Paddington.

It's approximately a 25 minute trip to Liskeard along the river and through the Looe valley, before the train turns around to wind its way up the hill to Liskeard.

NB: if you are a rail enthusiast check out the Bodmin Heritage steam railway a 30 minute drive from Harbour House.

Washing machine

There is a washer/drier in the boot room. We've left instructions on the easiest washing/drying cycles to use.

Washing line

By the outhouse door there is a retractable reel wash line. To the top-left of the bin-shed door you'll see an iron peg coming out of the wall. Extent to wash line to the peg and tie. You'll also need to wrap the line around the washing line container to create tension (there's a small plastic fitting at the base to wrap around).

Wifi

There is very good Wifi throughout the house, free of charge. The router is on a shelf in the dining room. The Wifi password will be given to you prior to arrival,

Yoga

On the quayside below the house you'll find the wonderful GOCHA wellness centre that offers contemporary dance, pilates and yoga. Find out more at www.gochawellness.com
